The Mark Scott Leadership for Life Award

Bell Group is delighted to be working with The Mark Scott Leadership for Life team. The Foundation was formed in 1996 in memory of Mark Scott, a 16 year old Glasgow schoolboy who was murdered in 1995 in an unprovoked sectarian attack.

Since its inception the Foundation has made over 400 awards to individual young people living in or closely connected with Scotland. The participants are drawn from different social, economic, religious and cultural backgrounds, to work together to deliver a project to benefit their local community.

On the 6th of January two teams of S6 pupils came to our Head Office to present their ideas for a community initiative to our Director Alistair Scott  and Business Development Manager Sandra Liddell,  their suggestions were very inspiring:

The first duo to present, Lewis & Caitlin (team 1.2) pitched the idea of painting playground games on the tarmac at two primary schools in their local area (Yoker & Bankhead), the idea being, the games will promote working as a team and exercise in the playground. Each school would also be given a set of instructions for the games along with a breakdown of the health benefits of playing them.

Our second team, Cara & Isobel (team 10.2) wanted to work with a local residential care home, repairing and renewing an outdoor relaxation area to allow the residents to use it in the spring/summer. The project would involve renewing flowerbeds and repainting the fencing surrounding the area.

We were extremely impressed with both bids and pledged to give our support in the form of supplying paint, labour and mentoring on delivering a high quality project. Watch this space for updates as the works get underway…

Feedback from Mark Scott Account Manager Lisa Hunter:

Thank you so much for taking the time to meet with the participants and hear their presentations this afternoon, and the support Bell Group have offered both teams.  As we left the building Caitlin and Lewis both said how they felt hat their project had just gone from being an ‘ok’ project to a ‘great’ project.

Having the opportunity to present their project ideas and pitch for support added another dimension to their learning, and development of skills for life and work, which we reinforce throughout The Award – an invaluable experience for them.

I look forward to hearing how the projects progress and we would be delighted for you to attend one of the project delivery days to see  the teams in action and the difference the Bell Group support has made.
