Bell Group Carlisle offer their support to People First Independent Advocacy

When People First Independent Advocacy asked for help with the redecoration of their brand new Conference Centre in Carlisle, Bell Group were keen to offer their support to such a worthy and award winning organisation.

People First is a not-for-profit organisation that has been working with many of Cumbria’s most vulnerable citizens for over 27 years; helping them to lead great lives, understand their rights and choices and speak up for themselves.

It was an exciting new project; The People First Conference Centre, located on Milbourne Street in the Great Border City of Carlisle.  Previously a dis-used library, and with the help of Bell Group, People First have given it a new lease of life; renovating it and providing a conference centre ‘with a difference’ to the local community.

What makes the conference centre different is that it will be run by adults and young people with learning difficulties; where they will have the opportunity to train whilst working in a real-life working environment, working towards vocational qualifications in food hygiene, catering, hospitality and customer services. The purpose of the project will be to provide essential skills and training to people with Learning Difficulties; with the aim that this will open up employment opportunities, encourage social inclusion and independent living. It will also serve as a genuine stepping stone to employment and independence; with many skills acquired transferable to other industries.  This will in turn improve the life skills, education, and enterprise of vulnerable and disadvantaged local people in the community, addressing inequality, deprivation and social exclusion.

We were excited to offer our painting and decorating expertise in order to give the Conference Centre its state of the art, modern and welcoming feel.

Corporate social responsibility is at the heart of our business. Craig Bell, Chief Executive Officer of Bell Group stated:

We are not just enhancing our business and our working environment; we are also lifting communities and proving a standard bearer in our field, as an equal opportunity employer, we are proud to be able to give our employees the opportunities to give something back in their community”

David Blacklock Chief Executive of People First said:

‘I would like to thank Bell Group for their incredibly generous offer and the amazing work that they undertook for us, they really did help us transform the space. I would also like to thank Crown Decorating Centre in Carlisle who donated all of the paint used in the new building. It is thanks to organisations like this that we are able to continue to offer amazing services and opportunities to so many vulnerable people in Cumbria’.
