Trinity House Bardsey Island Lighthouse

Value: £53,696

Trinity House is the general lighthouse authority for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar responsible for general aids to navigation including 69 lighthouses. Ensuring the safety of shipping and the well being of sea farers has been the responsibility of Trinity House since they were granted a Charter by Henry VIII in 1514.

Project Work

The lighthouse presented two different challenges. Firstly the job involved stripping all the old lead based paint from the inside of the tower. That involved developing not only ingenious ways of ensuring the safety of the operators in dealing with the material, but also ensuring the safe disposal of the hazardous waste. Secondly the job was carried out in February when sea conditions were not ideal, so close project management skills had to be deployed to ensure that the job was completed to the client’s satisfaction.
