Project Work

The main objective of this project was to undertake the cyclical pre paint repairs and maintenance painterwork. The pre paint repairs incorporate timber replacement, gutter/downpipe renewal and mastic replacement. Upon completing the necessary repairs, the painterwork was completed, in accordance with specification provided by Dulux paints.

End Result

Due to the client being very pleased with our performance, they subsequently awarded Bell Group the contract for carrying out repairs as well as internal redecoration, amounting to a total value of around £300k.

Project Work

The scope of work included full scaffold to the external elevations, lead work to the flat roof, waterproofing of the balcony and parapet areas, window repairs to existing sash windows, replacement windows to common areas and where paid for by the residents, brick repairs, pointing, replacement of secure entrance door, electrical works to fire exit, repairs to walkways and car park surfaces and repainting of all previously painted surfaces. We also carried out work to the small light wells using rope access specialists.

End Result

The project was completed on time and below budget to an extremely high standard. Since completing the project we have been asked to carry out two separate projects for different clients on the recommendation of residents from Addison House.

Orbit South HA Repairs & Painting Programme

Merton Borough Council External Decorations

Merton is located in southwest London and is one of the city’s greenest boroughs with significant open spaces, including Wimbledon Common, Mitcham Common and the National Trust’s Morden Hall Park. It has a rich history but is also a typically suburban borough, developed in the 1930s with the arrival of the Underground and suburban rail routes around the centres of Wimbledon, Morden, Mitcham, Raynes Park and Colliers Wood.

The stock varies in style but is predominantly traditional properties converted into sheltered accommodation in the 60’s and 70’s. The properties are predominantly 3 and 4 storey with extensions to the rear. The substrates to be worked on vary but in the main include timber windows, timber doors, masonry door and window surrounds, traditional cast iron gutters and downpipes and painted fascia’s and soffit boarding.

End Result

3 year contract extended for a further 3 years.

Habinteg HA Repairs & Painting Programme

We have had a national agreement since 2005 for the cyclical external redecorations and repairs to various dwellings from Tyneside down to South Cornwall and Wales. We have recently negotiated contract until 2014.

Childrens Society-Waves Project Redecoration

The Children’s Society Waves Project is located in Weymouth, Dorset and offers  services to young people facing bullying, drug or alcohol abuse,  accomodation and  employment problems, and managing issues that they may have in their everyday lives.

Project Work

The building is situated in a narrow sidestreet some 10 metres back from Weymouth harbourside.  In July 2009 an articulated lorry collided with the bay window, causing structural damage to the building and window.  Bell Group’s maintenance team from our Salisbury office attended site within 3 hours and made the building safe for the public and traffic using the street, as well as making it safe for the staff to continue working within the building.

End Result

After protracted negotiations with the haulage company’s insurers and the local authority, Bell Group rebuilt the bay window to the original design which required procuring bespoke window components and a new lead roof.

The building was originally painted yellow so that it was easy for people to locate. Time, wind and seaside weather inevitably take their toll and in spring 2011 Bell Group returned to site to carry out timber repairs to rotten areas of the shop frontage, and, redecorations, to a more subtle shade of colour, to the complete three storey facade.  Scaffolding was erected out of normal working hours to avoid the need for a road closure; the base lift of the scaffold was double boarded with polythene sandwiched between so that no debris could fall on the public using the pavement below and the complete scaffold was netted for the same reason.  We used Dulux Weathershield masonry paint, undercoat and gloss for all decoration.

The Royal Agricultural College Redecoration

The Royal Agricultural College was the first agricultural college in the English speaking world, and in 1845, Earl Bathurst leased the current site for the Gothic style building to be created, with its Royal Warrant being granted the same year. It is now recognised as a global authority on agricultural development.

Project Work

The College identified that their library and reading room were in need of repair and redecoration, but they only had a limited timescale and required a contractor who could undertake a variety of tasks. It was vitally important that the project was completed within a three week period during a vacation break to ensure that the students would not have their studies interrupted.

End Result

Further investment in the College infrastructure is going ahead and Bell Group continue to support the College in maintaining this famous institution.

Trafalgar Wharf Heavy Duty Coatings

Situated at the top of Portsmouth Harbour, the Porchester Dockyard was until 2008, owned by Vosper Thorneycroft and was the main centre for building minesweepers for the Royal Navy. In September 2008, Trafalgar Wharf Ltd took over the yard and started transforming it into a major commercial boatyard catering for the growing market for pleasure boat repair and storage seen on the South Coast and Solent area in particular.

Project Work

Trafalgar Wharf contacted Bell Group for their advice and a heavy duty two pack epoxy coating was selected. After suitable preparation and a three coat application, the floor was ready for use and the expensive tyres were protected. Existing tramways were also causing wear and tear on the tyres, so Bell Group came up with an innovative temporary former that could be placed over the tracks whilst the forklift truck was in operation.

End Result

Further works are planned at Trafalgar Wharf to complete the transformation and Bell Group is a key partner in helping them achieve their goal of being the leading pleasure boat repair and storage facility on the South Coast of England.
