Bell Decorating Academy Launches at City College Plymouth

Wednesday 17th January 2018 saw the launch of our fourth Painting and Decorating Academy. Bell Group is working in partnership with City College Plymouth to expand the range of work experience and apprenticeship opportunities for their construction students.

Bell Decorating Academy will focus on painting and decorating skills to address the national skills gap in the industry. The project aims to meet the growing demand of construction-related jobs, Building Plymouth have estimated that 10,000 construction-related jobs will need to be filled in the next five years in this area alone. The Academy will offer students on-site work experience and the opportunity to receive master classes from Bell Group staff. Bell Group’s suppliers will also provide master classes on working with different products.

Bell Group CEO, Craig Bell attended the day along with Plymouth Branch Manager, Darren Jeffery who said:

“The opening of this Academy is particularly special to our branch, which this year celebrates its ninth year. I personally attended City College, as did many of our operatives, supervisors and managers. It’s very rewarding to help others start a fantastic career with a local college that helped kick start mine. I look forward to working with the students and seeing them develop into the future generation of our industry.”

City College's Academy Manager of Construction and Allied Trades, Charlie Pond said:

“We want to help ensure our full-time students are work-ready with the employable skills that businesses value. This partnership is a way for us to bring young people into contact with employers and we believe the Academy will prove successful in cultivating the next generation of highly skilled workers to meet the skills gap.”

We will be attending City College Plymouth on Wednesday 3rd February to take part in the Open Day. If you would like to find out more about any of our opportunities come along and see us!
